New York workers and mold safety

On Behalf of | Mar 4, 2016 | Workplace Safety |

New York workers face a variety of hazards on the job. Some of these hazards may come from the people or things with which they work. However, other individuals can face environmental hazards that pose a risk to their overall health.

Mold can often pose a serious health risk to individuals exposed to it while on-the-job. If a New York worker is working in the environment where mold may be present, there are safety laws in place to protect these individuals. According to the New York State Department of Labor, the New York mold program has three components that help to keep workers safe.

First, there are training requirements. Before individuals can work in mold abatement jobs, they must be properly trained and licensed. Second, licensing requirements ensure that contractors know what they’re doing when they work with mold. According to the mold program, only licensed individuals will be able to advertise mold abatement work. However, there are limited exceptions to this rule.

Finally, there are minimum working standards that must be met for individuals in this line of work. These working standards include using products that meet safety standards set by the federal government. Additionally, it includes providing protective equipment to employees who are working with these dangerous substances.

It is important for workers to understand the risks that come with working in dangerous fields. Whether individuals are working with environmental hazards such as mold, or if they are working jobs with other dangers, people have the right to protections to keep them safe. An attorney can help to explain these protections and any remedies that are available if a workplace accident occurs. If individuals are injured on the job, they may be entitled to workers’ compensation benefits under New York laws.
