Worker in picket line hit by police officer

On Behalf of | May 31, 2016 | Firm News, Workers' Compensation |

Workers in New York can get injured in a variety of situations. There can be risks inside a workplace, a lapse in judgment or heavy machinery that cause injuries. These injuries can happen because of the worker themselves or because of coworkers. The employer’s failure to take proper safety precautions can also cause workplace accidents and injuries.

However, other factors can also cause a serious workplace injury. Outside factors, such as members of the public can interfere with a worker’s job and safety. This can lead to accidents and serious injuries.

Generally, people think of the police as being safe for members of the public. However, recently police are being blamed for causing a workplace accident. According to reports, a police officer hit a worker as the person was demonstrating on a picket line in New York.

Reports claim that the police officer was moving another worker’s vehicle when the officer hit the striking worker. The police officer then drove away from the scene of the accident. The police department claims that the worker suffered minor injuries in the course of this accident. No other details about the accident were released by the police department.

When a worker is involved in a workplace accident in New York, the worker can suffer any number of serious injuries. These injuries can take people away from their job and cost quite a bit of money to treat. Workers need to understand that these expenses may be covered by workers’ compensation.

Workers’ compensation is available to New York workers no matter the cause of their workplace injuries. This compensation helps to cover medical expenses, lost wages and other costs related to the accident. It may even be available if the worker caused the injuries to begin with.

However, it’s not always easy to obtain these benefits. Workers need to act fast to secure their legal right to compensation.
