Many New York workers put their lives on the line in order to do their jobs on a daily basis. Frequently, safety measures are taken in order to protect workers and minimize the risk of workplace accidents. However, despite precautions, workplace accidents occur that result in serious injuries and fatalities.
Recently, a New York worker was seriously injured on the job. According to reports, the man was running electrical line while leaning over an open street grate when the incident occurred. At the time of the accident, the man was wearing a safety rope. However, reports claimed that the safety rope broke and the man fell into the open shaft. The man fell 25 feet before stopping.
Rescue workers were called to the scene to remove the man from the large hole. They had to lift the man out using a crane and backboard. Emergency workers said the man was seriously injured in the fall. Witnesses claim that the man was covered in bruises following his rescue. At a local hospital, the man was listed in serious condition.
While the man receives medical care, authorities are investigating the accident. They will try to determine how it occurred, and why.
Even people working in dangerous jobs deserve workplace safety protections. In fact, state and federal regulations are often in place to help keep workers safe. It is often an employer’s responsibility to ensure that these regulations are followed.
Workers who are seriously injured in a workplace accident may suffer a variety of unexpected expenses. These can include lost wages and medical expenses. Worker’s compensation benefits can help to compensate workers for losses suffered in a workplace accident. Injured workers may have the right to this compensation when their injury took place at work. New York workers should understand their legal rights when it comes to workplace injuries.
