Construction season is in full swing throughout New York State. Construction workers are working every day to improve the state’s roads, buildings and other infrastructure before the long, cold winter. While this construction can cause traffic delays and other headaches, without construction workers the state would quickly fall into disrepair.
Construction workers, therefore, do an important job. However, this job is often done in dangerous conditions. These workers face hazardous worksites, dangerous equipment and more each day at work. While most of these workers will make it home to their families each day, many are injured in the process.
Recently, for example, two New York construction workers were injured on the job site. This construction accident apparently took place as the workers were on the first floor of a building. According to reports, the accident took place around 10:15 a.m. The specifics of the accident are unclear, but reports claim that the ceiling in the project collapsed, thereby injuring two workers.
Emergency responders quickly rescued the workers and took them to a nearby hospital. Both of the workers suffered serious injuries. One of the workers had life-threatening injuries, while the other was less seriously injured.
While the cause of this serious accident is unknown, an investigation is likely. This investigation will hopefully uncover the cause of the collapse so that similar accidents can be avoided in the future. If safety regulations were ignored, the construction company may be fined.
However, actions against the company itself will not help the injured workers. Workers in this situation should instead seek workers’ compensation. Workers’ compensation can help compensate these workers for the costs of the workplace accident including medical expenses and lost wages.
