Worker injured in New York explosion

On Behalf of | Aug 22, 2013 | Firm News, Workers' Compensation |

Recently an asphalt plant in New York had an unexpected explosion. The company operates more than 12 different plants across New York and other eastern states. The company is responsible for supplying construction materials including gravel, sand and asphalt around the state.

According to officials, employees were preparing to mix a batch of blacktop at around 6:00 a.m. when something went wrong. The explosion injured one employee, police say. That employee had to be taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. Luckily, the employee only suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Police are still investigating the incident and have not released any details about the cause of the blast.

Workplace accidents, like this one, are quite common in New York. While people may want to believe that they are safe while on the job, these accidents often cause serious workplace injuries. Some injuries are not serious, like those caused by this explosion. However, people should still seek medical treatment following even minor workplace injuries.

Other workplace injuries can cause serious and permanent disabilities. These disabilities can keep people from work for months or even years. In some cases, people may never be able to return to work or to normal life. In these cases, people may require extensive medical care and rehabilitation.

In either the case of minor injuries or permanent disability, workplace injuries are likely to cost New York workers money. There will be medical expenses, time off from work, pain and suffering and other costs. In these situations, workers’ compensation is available to help cover the costs caused by a workplace injury. Workers compensation will allow workers to return to normal life as quickly as possible following an accident.
