3 injured in New York museum explosion

New Yorkers have a variety of interesting activities that they can do at any given moment. Many of these sightseeing attractions are unique to only New York and require constant attention by employees to keep themselves and visitors safe.

One of these attractions is the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space museum. The museum is crafted out of an old aircraft carrier and attached to a pier. Recently, an explosion at the museum has injured three employees.

According to reports, the explosion occurred while repairs were being made to a transformer at around 11:30 a.m. The transformer was part of the outdoor power supply on the pier. While workers from the utility company had been called to the scene, the injured workers were not employed by the power company.

Two of the workers -- a paid employee and a volunteer -- who were injured were taken to local hospitals to be treated for their injuries. Reports claim that the injuries were not life-threatening. The third employee was evaluated at the scene.

Workers, like these, who are injured on the job may face a variety of emotional and financial challenges. While a workplace accident can be a scary situation for the worker and that person's family, it can also be costly. Medical bills and lost wages can easily pile up as people recover from their injuries.

Thankfully, New York State requires employers to carry workers' compensation insurance. Under workers' compensation, workers can receive much needed compensation for the financial harm caused by the accident. This can include paying medical expenses and lost wages. This compensation can help workers get back to work following an injury without forcing them to bear the financial burden of the accident.
