New York worker trapped in elevator shaft following accident

For workers in Schenectady, New York, their job is usually about the paycheck. Few people work just for fun. Instead, people work to pay their bills and support their family. When a workplace accident leaves a worker out of work, it can be devastating for peoples' financial future. Some workplace injuries can force people to stay home from work for weeks, months or years. Depending on the severity of the accident, workplace injuries can leave people with debilitating and permanent injuries.

Thankfully, for one New York worker, a workplace accident only left him with minor injuries. In this case, the man worked in a parking garage. At the time of the accident, he was supposedly transferring a car from the fifth floor via an elevator. However, when the elevator doors opened, the actual elevator car was not there. As a result, the car the man was driving plummeted from the fifth floor before getting stuck between the first and second floors.

Following the fall, the garage worker was able to escape the car through its moon roof. Once out of the car, rescue workers were able to lift him -- and eventually the car -- to safety. He was then transported to a local hospital. He is expected to be fine.

Expenses from this accident may start to pile up for this worker. There will be lost wages and medical costs -- even if he has insurance. Workers' compensation can offer New York employers who are injured in workplace accidents compensation for these expenses. Workers' compensation can help workers avoid financial struggles while they recover and can help people focus on their recovery so they can get back to work as soon as possible.
